Living with TMJ disorder can be difficult, but relying on pain relievers to get through the day can be risky and inconvenient. Here are some activities to relieve pain and avoid taking addictive drugs with unpleasant side effects.

Correcting Posture

Consider how some modern-day activities can easily lead to posture issues; We spend most days in front of a screen, either slouching in front of a computer at work or on the couch with a smartphone. We also tend to sit for extended lengths of time in either case, jeopardizing our posture and health.

TMJ disorder and jaw pain may be exacerbated by lousy posture resulting from everyday activities. TMJ disorder pain is frequently caused by alignment abnormalities, particularly in the neck and shoulders. While the jaw is delicately balanced, alignment abnormalities resulting from poor posture can easily cause misalignment, locking, popping, and other problems.

Exercises in Posture

Cuff your fists, shrug your shoulders, and inhale deeply while keeping your jaw relaxed. Repeat for a total of three seconds. Then exhale for five seconds while relaxing your shoulders and hands. Repeat.

Jaw Pain

Jaw pain can appear in a variety of ways. It could be a subtle discomfort or, in the worst-case scenario, a stabbing sensation. While it can appear out of nowhere, it can also begin as a minor ache before becoming more intense. Whatever the severity of your jaw pain, you’ll undoubtedly be in misery and want to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

Exercises for the Jaw

TMJ issues cause pain in the jaws in the majority of people. The pain may occur while the jaw is relaxed, chewing, speaking, or, more importantly, yawning.

Close and open your jaw ten times with your tongue on the roof of your mouth. After that, take a break and repeat.

Place your thumb beneath your chin and open your mouth as far as you can. Gently push yourself up and attempt to keep your mouth shut. Resist closing your mouth by using your jaw muscles. Hold the position for a few seconds. Then softly draw your lower jaw down for a few seconds. Relax. Repeat.

Massage Exercises

A decent massage can help with most painful body areas, and the jaw is no exception.

You’ll notice a notch on each side of your face, around 1 inch from your ear. This is the location of the masseter muscle. Massage can assist ease discomfort, particularly from chewing, because this is the critical muscle involved in the action.
