What is epigenetics?

ep·i·ge·net·ics   /epəjəˈnediks/   nounBiology     noun: epigenetics
Epigenetics is the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than alteration of the genetic code itself.
In dentistry, Epigenetic science naturally grows and restructures the jaws without invasive procedures or surgery, allowing Dr. Buck to straighten teeth, eliminate TMJ disorders, cure obstructive sleep apnea and cosmetically enhance appearance.

Epigenetic Science and Dentistry

Crowded teeth, TMJ, obstructive sleep apnea and underdeveloped chins are all symptoms of underdeveloped jaws. In other words, the jaw did not grow to its full size. Modern diet, environmental pollutants and other external factors cause this during development. The result is an unhappy smile with crooked teeth, misaligned jaws and tongues that block airways during sleep because the lower jaw doesn’t give it enough space to lay properly.

Epigenetic science can trigger bone growth, even in adults, so your jaw grows naturally the way your genes intended. Under Dr. Buck’s treatment, your fully-grown jaw results in your healthiest, happiest smile where everything fits, feels good and looks great. Interested in knowing more?

TMJ and Epigenetic Orthodontics

Many TMJ problems in adults are caused by prior orthodontics and tooth extractions they receive in orthodontics treatment. The traditional approach to orthodontics moves teeth cosmetically without regard to long-term factors necessary to avoid painful jaw disorders. This old approach is based on the idea that the jawbone can’t continue to grow in an adult. We can do that non-invasively now with Epigenetic science.

At Balance Epigenetic Orthodontics, Dr. Buck applies Epigenetic science prior to orthodontic treatment, growing the patient’s jaw to their full potential before beginning orthodontics. With the jaw fully developed, everything fits… all the teeth, the jaws, the tongue. In this environment, Dr. Buck straightens the teeth with orthodontics, building the balanced, beautiful smile on the solid structure of fully developed jaws. That is your happiest smile possible! Are you interested in orthodontics without extractions and the potential for future TMJ problems?

Curing Obstructive Sleep Apnea

When your tongue has enough room to lay properly when you sleep, it doesn’t block your airway. With Epigenetic science, Dr. Buck treats Obstructive Sleep Apnea patients by growing the jaws to their full size, creating the space needed for your tongue to lay naturally.

Sleep apnea is much more serious than simply snoring. Obstructing the airway reduces oxygen intake which affects your entire health. Distressed breathing also prevents restful sleep. A person feels these exhausting effects in the short-term, but long-term these factors threaten overall health and wellness. Sleep apnea is linked to serious health-threatening conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is caused by the tongue not fitting in the space provided by the jaws. Underdeveloped jaws leave too little space for the tongue to lay properly during sleep so the tongue creates an obstruction in the airway. Dr. Buck simply helps patients grow their jaws to the full size and shape nature intended, so the tongue will fit in the space intended. Dr. Buck’s Epigenetic treatment creates permanent change that requires no maintenance. Are you ready for a permanent cure for Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

Specialized Dental Treatments

We offer a varity of specialty services including Orthodonics, TMJ treatment and Sleep Apnea Treatments

Orthodontics aren’t just for teens. Many adults seek our orthodontic treatment to straighten their teeth thanks to available new technologies. Whether you are a teen or an adult, orthodontics will make a significant change to your teeth and structure of your mouth. The best first step is an Epigenetic consult to make sure your orthodontic treatment is performed on a fully developed jaw. And under no circumstances should extractions be recommended. With Epigenetic science, your jaws will grow to accommodate all your teeth and fit them straightly in the right places. By beginning your orthodontic treatment with a consultation at Balance Epigenetic Orthodontics, you can avoid inviting future TMJ resulting from orthodontic work.

Dr. Buck practices and teaches Neuromuscular Dentistry, a non-invasive method of correcting temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). This common, chronic, painful condition can have many symptoms, most notably jaw pain, clicking in the jaws, headaches including migraine headaches, neck pain and more. The temporomandibular joint, or the jaw joint, affects bone and soft tissues. So, when that joint is dysfunctional, many areas of the body are affected. If you or someone you know is living with chronic jaw, head or neck pain, a consultation with Dr. Buck might be life changing. Once diagnosed, Dr. Buck’s treatment plan for TMD can include Epigenetic science and Neuromuscular Dentistry depending on what is needed to create a permanent solution to the disorder, eliminating the chronic pain.

Sleep apnea is a serious condition and should not be taken lightly. Snoring is the most recognizable symptom of sleep apnea, and it is more than an annoying or humorous behavior. There are several types of sleep apnea and all are dangerous to your health. Some can be life threatening. The first and most important part of sleep apnea is diagnosis. Dr. Buck can help you with initial assessment leading to diagnosis. In the event of a sleep apnea diagnosis, your nights don’t necessarily need to involve bulky CPAP machines. By fully growing patients’ jaws with Epigenetic science, Dr. Buck removes the airway obstruction by making room for the tongue.

How Can Epigenetic Orthodontics Affect How I Look?

In Dr. Buck’s Epigenetic approach, the upper arch or upper jaw is stimulated in a way to trigger growth to express it’s full genetic potential. The lower jaw reacts to the new growth, naturally growing to fit the expanding upper arch. This effect can change the way a person looks maximizing facial proportions and dimensions to accentuate features. In some ways, this process can have a face lifting effect. Dr. Buck explains the cosmetic effects of Epigenetic Orthodontics in this video:

Dr. Buck's Philosophy

Epigenetic Orthodontics opens and protects the airway enhancing breathing both during sleep and awake activities.

Dr. Buck practices a philosophy that integrates airway into all diagnosis and treatments. Traditional approaches do not consider the functioning capacity of the airway and how treatment can negatively, or positively affect breathing and sleep. A compromised airway puts health at risk at any age. If TMJ treatments, orthopedics, and orthodontics are planned well the airway is protected or enhanced. In fact in adults who have sleep apnea, facial orthopedic treatment can increase room for the tongue, and airway. There is increasing evidence that has demonstrated that mild to moderate sleep apnea can be cured with the approach Dr. Buck uses.
